Finger-licking good is the only way to describe these drumsticks slathered in honey BBQ sauce. The recipes for both the sauce and the chicken are below. Great for kid-friendly family meals or hosting a party with friends.
Serves: Enough sauce for 50 drumsticks.
Tools:
2-4 rimmed baking sheets
aluminum foil
mixing bowl
whisk
basting brush
Ingredients:
25 – 50 chicken drumsticks (depending on the size of your crowd)
2 cups hickory BBQ sauce
1 cup ketchup
1/8 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup honey
1/2 tsp course sea salt, or to taste
1/2 tsp cracked black pepper, or to taste
1 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp brown sugar
For the sauce:
Mix all the ingredients above together with a whisk in a medium bowl until combined. Hickory BBQ sauce is sometimes imported but if it is not available, regular BBQ sauce would work fine. Set aside.
Wash the chicken drumsticks and pat dry with a paper towel.
Line the baking sheets with aluminum foil. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius / 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Coat thoroughly every drumstick with dry rub (click for recipe). Bake in oven until internal temperature reaches 150 degrees with a meat thermometer.
Remove chicken from oven and generously slather with BBQ sauce on one side. Bake again for 5 minutes. Remove chicken again, turning every drumstick. Slather the uncoated side with BBQ sauce. Bake again for 5-10 minutes. Chicken should have an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
Remove from oven. Serve hot. Make sure you have napkins close by.
